Plaster is an extremely porous material when dried, which means that it will absorb any new water that touches its surface.  When utilizing Brockwell's plaster products outside, we recommended that you waterproof them by filling in as many surface pores as possible.

A few common fillers used on plaster products are resin, wax, and shellac, which all work to varying degrees of effectiveness.  Eventually, some moisture may get through the surface treatment, but following these tips can offer your Brockwell plaster products a higher level of protection from the elements.

Below are a few tips and recommendations for maintaining the life of your exterior plaster products.

For exterior plaster products, utilize a Marine Based Primer and a Marine Based Finish.

The plaster components should be primed and finished on both sides.

ESSENTIAL:  It is important to re-paint the components / products over time if any cracks or peels occur from the initial painting.

Once the plaster products are installed, each component should be caulked around the edges, thoroughly, in order to prevent water from getting behind it.
